Saturday party line

Psted by: astreet0

I realize that Dane has a life but this is 3 weeks of not having Sat. Morning party line. We dont get any local news or obituaries from 10 am Friday morning until Monday. Why cant someone be hired to fill in or maybe even a College student studying to do this kind of work to fill in so we can get local news and have party line. I am just curious.

I think Dane should continue to have a life, and not be required to do a show on Saturday, but I really think you should investigate using a college intern to do a show each Saturday. When I was in business (albeit completely different from radio), we used interns quite a bit, and yes, sometimes you get a bad one, but that seemed to be the exception instead of the rule, as long as the professors understood exactly what you were looking for. We really did get some very competent folks this way and our parent company hired quite a few of them and they have went on to be very successful. From a business side, they work cheap and are a ‘hoot’ to have around = it’s amazing how having a ‘youth’ around with their ‘exuberance’ perks everyone up!!!!!!

Just would like to know, has the Saturday show officially been dropped for good, or will there still be one on occasion? Since it returned Nov 7, there have only been 4 Sat shows.

Matt: it doesnt seem as if you are taking the care you should be with your rural listeners.By not having Sat.party line we have no way of knowing who has passed away. Even if we subscribe to the BDN and live rurally, we do not get the paper unti Tuesday. a person who has died on Friday could be buried before we get the news. i to, would be very much in favor of getting Ted b back on Saturfays for a few hours.

As we started this change in January I listened very close to the last month of Teds final shows. I took notes as to what changes I would need to make in the next year or two to make the morning show better. Saturdays were going to be dropped all together. I listened to all the Saturdays in December and most of them had very little actual news.
News was next to nothing on Saturdays. Remember we report news Monday thru Friday, ad Saturdays and you have to come up with a bunch of stories to fill 6 days per week.
Folks this is not as easy as it sounds. This is Boonville and news can be a bit sparse from time to time. We will not become a tabloid as others have chosen to do to fill space. We will report on things once and move on until other news worthy events happen. We will not streatch out a story and beat it to death. Dane is learning on the Job and he will make some mistakes but if you give him a chance I know he will keep doing better in the news area. I think he has made great progress and he is eager to learn. You will see!

Not sure how Ted B’s relationship is with the station these days, but maybe he would want to come back and do the Saturday show. Nothing against Dane-o because he’s done fine, but I’m sure a lot of us still miss Ted and would enjoy hearing him back on the air from time to time. I’ve always sensed Dane doesn’t like having to do the Saturday show.

It has nothing to do about “having a life”. It has to do with participation. During the summer months calls drop off, so we decided to stop until November 7th. It has always been a struggle to get callers during the summer for as long as I can remember on Saturdays so I made the decision to make this programing change. We will look at it as time goes buy and we might bring it back if we have enough call for it.
    Thanks,
    Matt
