School Budget
Posted by: Concerned Boonville Citizen
I am concerned about the lack of information available regarding the changes to the Boonville School Districts budget changes. I know that there will be a public forum later this month but I feel that the school board should release more information regarding the programs they are considering cutting. The rumor mill has been a buzz with all the items they are considering cutting. I would like someone from the board to address these items. I have heard that they are considering cutting teachers next year. Cutting 7th, 8th and 9th grade sports and several other positions. All of these cuts would greatly effect our children. Cutting teachers should be an absolute last resort. I would like more information from the school board before going to the public forum so that I know what questions I want addressed. I would like to see the media outlets in Boonville to start asking the school board the hard questions regarding this issue. The little bit of information I have seen and heard is not nearly adequate.

I would like to know how mutch the utility bill has increased with the new football feild ? I was told the Jaycees football games are played there at knight now when they used to be played during the day in the natural light. The football lights were on last fall 2009 mutch more than in the past years. We all know having extra lights on at home can make our bill higher.

To question whether or not an individual has been on this planet based on their own sincere opinion is just a sign of ignorance and arrogance. There have been many cuts abroad in the schools through out the nation, including teaching. The true question is how many other cuts can be made before you let go of some of your teaching staff. For every teaching position you cut the existing teachers are requested to accept an increase in head count in the classroom. Learning and teaching become more difficult with an increase in students in any classroom. When you’re balancing a budget you must first trim or eliminate controllable costs; utilities, extra curricular activities and so on, then you trim your fixed costs…….teachers for example. To simply compare the business model of one school district to another and make the same cuts is absurd. Our children should not be sacrificial lambs when it comes to education. Keep in mind that the students of today may be the leaders of tomorrow, so let’s assure ourselves they get a great education!

Wow, I don’t believe that I said anything about it not being part of the times. I work at a local factory so yes I do know what is going on in the world. I also know what is going on in our schools, do you? Cutting teachers should be a LAST RESORT! Increasing class sizes should be a LAST RESORT! I am not saying that it will not have to be done, but I feel that we as tax paying citizens should make sure that our school board is examining ALL OPTIONS. So please do not misunderstand what I am saying. Layoffs may be needed but for the sake of our children I feel we should try other options first. This will be my last post regarding this. I do not appreciate people telling me to get a grip, when all I am asking is for those in our community to become aware of what is going on.
